Elisha Homich joins the 1,000 point club

Here is the update from Amherst this evening. Ludlow senior forward Elisha Homich became the school’s first ever female to score 1,000 points. Homich came out strong, scoring 10 first half points, including seven in the first five minutes of action.

After taking a hard hit right before the half (She was down for several minutes and her facial expressions told the pain), Homich came back and not only reached the milestone, she helped her team win an important league game, 53-43 over the Hurricances.

Here is the play-by-play of how it happened.

Homich has 12 points here and is just 0ne 3-pointer away from this important accomplishment. Homich takes the ball, drives the left baseline and somehow hits the jumper while drawing the foul. What a strong move by the co-captain. Homich steps to the line and hits the free throw with 7:08 left in the third. Yes folks, she did it on a traditional 3-point play while driving to the hole. Just brilliant!!

The game was paused and an on-court celebration took place. Ludlow Athletic Director Nancy Kurty was there and friends and families poured Homich with flowers and balloons. Ludlow also brought a large contingent of fans and they peeled off 15 pieces of paper from the brick wall each time Homich scored. She finished with a game-high 20 points.

Now, I don’t want to give away any secrets or anything but those of you who couldn’t make it down tonight should come to LHS tomorrow for the Lions’ game versus Holyoke. There are plans to recognize this feat before the game against the Purple Knights. I’ll be there live-blogging so tune in tomorrow.
